The Nine Mile Point Lighthouse Preservation Society is a registered non-profit corporation.
It is affiliated with the Ontario Historical Society
Has an open membership with an annual membership fee
Is Governed by a volunteer board of directors
The Nine Mile Point Lighthouse Preservation Society grew from a grassroots response, in 2010, to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans designation of hundreds of lighthouse in Canada as surplus. On June 14, 2014, the Nine Mile Point Lighthouse Preservation Society was incorporated through affiliation with the Ontario Historical Society.
Purpose:
1) To protect and preserve the architectural integrity of the Nine Mile Point Lighthouse.
2) To facilitate public access to the Nine Mile Point Lighthouse site by creating and maintaining a public park on the property.
3) To promote an understanding of the historical importance of the None Mile Point Lighthouse to navigation on the Great Lakes.
4) To provide educational information about the maritime history of Canada including the role of the Nine Mile Point Lighthouse.
